전북 전주시 출연기관이자 탄소전문연구기관인 (재)한국탄소융합기술원이 섬유업계의 혁신을 이끌어 제34회 섬유의 날 기념식에서 대통령 표창을 수여받는 영예를 안았다.

 

(재)한국탄소융합기술원은 11일 서울 삼성동 섬유센터에서 열린 '제34회 섬유의 날' 기념식에서 탄소섬유에 대한 실용화 연구개발과 국산화에 이바지하며 탄소산업 생태계 조성 등의 공로를 인정받아 대통령상을 수상했다.

 

이날 한국섬유산업연합회가 주최하고 산업통상자원부와 27개 섬유패션 단체가 후원한 기념식은 섬유인의 화합과 결속을 다지고 섬유산업발전에 기여한 모범 섬유인을 선발ㆍ포상하는 행사다.

 

기념식은 코로나19 코로나19 확산 방지를 위해 박진규 산업통상자원부 차관과 이상운 섬유산업 회장 및 섬유패션산업분야 일자리창출ㆍ혁신성장ㆍ공정경제 등의 공적을 가진 유공자와 기관 등 50여명만 참석한 가운데 열렸다.

 

이날 영예의 대통령 표창을 수상한 (재)한국탄소융합기술원은 국내 유일의 탄소소재 분야 전문 연구기관으로 지난 2003년부터 전주가 탄소산업의 메카로 거듭나는 데 중심 역할을 수행하고 있다.

또한, 지난해 국가연구개발과제로 47억8,700만원 상당의 23건의 신규 사업 수주 및 탄소섬유를 중심으로 탄소섬유 강화 플라스틱(CFRP)ㆍ다공성 탄소ㆍ전도성 탄소 등 탄소소재 6대 분야 원천기술과 응용기술 확보에 집중해 70건의 특허를 등록ㆍ출원하는 성과를 올렸다.

이 같은 성과를 바탕으로 지난 3일 정부(산업부)로부터 국가기관인 한국탄소산업진흥원으로 지정 받아 내년 3월 출범을 준비하고 있는 만큼, 향후 탄소소재 국가산업단지와 연계해 지역 내 탄소산업 생태계 활성화를 주도하며 국가차원의 미래 성장산업 중심기관으로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.
