Jeonbuk-do promotes the old ditch restoration project to reduce pollution sources upstream of the waterway.

The restoration of the old ditch is to improve water quality and improve the local ecosystem by reducing and managing pollutants from the upstream of the waterway, targeting the ditches in front of the village or 7 cities/guns in the province, which are omitted from the legal maintenance or management plan, or are neglected without a management entity. It is a restoration project.

Project targets include Jeonju Directive System, etc., and 420 million won were invested in Tapcheon, Iksan, Pyeongsaricheon, Jinan, Habaesilcheon, Sinheungcheon, Jeoksangcheon, Gochang, Yeongokcheon, and Yeongokcheon in Buan. While promoting the project, recover the landscape and eliminate non-point sources of pollution.

In particular, seven local governments in the province initiated a promotion council composed of civic groups and experts to collect opinions, establish detailed plans for ditch restoration, and promote resident-participated restoration activities.

The promotion council will play a role in establishing a customized restoration plan that takes into account the characteristics of the region by finally selecting the target site through a feasibility check procedure such as consulting for the candidate target site and consultation with residents.

In addition, pollution reduction practice activities and practical projects such as education and publicity are also supported so that local residents can directly participate in water quality improvement.

Jeonbuk-do Shin Byeong-gi, head of the water environment management department, said, "We plan to analyze the improvement effect by conducting monthly water quality monitoring and performance checks in the target area to promote effective projects, and reflect recommendations, etc." It is expected to improve awareness.”

In addition, he said, "We ask for the active participation of residents in the target area so that public-private cooperative water management can be realized through ditch restoration activities."
