Application of 'workplace registration' for daily and part-time workers

National PensionFrom January next year, lower the threshold to reduce insurance premiums for 93,000 people

Reporter Yohan Lee

From January 1, next year, daily and part-time workers with monthly income of 2.2 million won or more will be included as members of the National Pension Workplace, regardless of the number of working days and hours, and will be able to reduce their insurance premium burden.

The National Pension Service announced on the 30th that "the threshold for subscribers will be lowered and an 'income standard' will be added from next year, so even if the number of working days or hours is insufficient, if the monthly income is 2.2 million won or more, you can become a worker at the workplace."

Accordingly, about 93,000 daily and part-time workers are expected to benefit from this yearly (July 2020 to June 2021 = based on the National Tax Service's daily workers).

In the meantime, daily/part-time workers were only eligible for workplace insurers if they worked for more than one month and worked more than 8 days a month or 60 hours a month.

According to the current standards, even workers who worked for more than one month and earned more than 2.2 million won a month were not eligible to join a workplace if they worked only 6 days a month.

However, in order to protect the rights and interests of daily workers who are excluded from the number of working days and working hours despite having a certain amount of income or more, the standards for applying for membership in an income-oriented workplace have been improved according to the amendment of the relevant laws in June this year.

Kim Yong-jin, chairman of the National Pension Service, said, "Through this system improvement, it is expected that the guarantee of retirement income for daily workers who are weak in retirement preparation will be further strengthened. I will do my best," he said.
