Jeong Kkot-nim Gayageum Recital 'Sign'

Kim Yun-deok-ryu Gayageum sanjo original sound restorationThe first stage of the gayageum project

Reporter Lee Yong-chan

Geomungo, Gayageum player Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 23, Gayageum sanjo performing arts holder Nokya Kim Yun-deok(1918-1978) A recital by Jeong Kkom-nim, who restores the gayageum sanjo during the life of master, will be held at 4 pm on the 16th at 4 pm in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province. It will be put on the stage of 'Yeonji Art Hall'.

The first gayageum project by Jeong Kkot-nim is attracting a lot of attention from fans as it is a stage where they can restore and appreciate the value of local traditional music masters who have made dazzling progress as local traditional musicians.

The current Korean traditional music has been on the verge of loss and severance through numerous wars and turbulence in its long history, but the history has continued through the restoration of the original sound by later researchers.

The original sound of the Kim Yun-deok-ryu gayageum sanjo also disappeared during the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, and there have been many concerts to restore the Kim Yun-deok-ryu gayageum sanjo, but there has been no original sound concert where you can truly feel its reality.

Performer Jeong Kkomnim, who started the restoration of the original sound of 'Kim Yun-deok-ryu Gayageum Sanjo', said, "After graduating from the National Traditional Arts High School and Chonbuk National University's Department of Korean Music, I had already encountered the Kim Yun-deok-ryu Gayageum Sanjo at school around 2005." has stated that

Performer Jeong Kkom-nim, an established traditional musician who is a member of 'Jeongeup Handmade Natural Ensemble' and a permanent member of 'Jeongeup Municipal Traditional Orchestra', said in an interview with this magazine on the 14th, "During graduate school, I encountered and played Kim Yundeok-ryu gayageum sanjo, but since last year in Jeongeup. Kim Yun-deok-ryu, who lived and heard the process of preparing a traditional music gayageum project that honors the footsteps of the local traditional music masters and restores their musical values, was a song that was more difficult to restore than any other sound source of the five gayageum sanjos he had encountered.” explained.

In particular, he emphasized, "Last year, by chance, in the process of following in the footsteps of master Kim Yun-deok, I was able to accidentally discover the original sound source from 1969 during Kim Yun-duk's life for about 20 minutes."

If we interpret Jeong Kkotnim’s explanation directly, as is known in some academic circles, unlike the theory that ‘the original form of the Kim Yun-deok-ryu Gayageum sanjo was cut off’, there were no CDs left, but some recording tapes were recorded in Jeongeup, the hometown of Kim Myeong-in. It is interpreted that the original sound source still remains in various places.

Unlike court music, 'Sanjo', also called 'hutong-rak', is a product of 18th-century music, which in the history of Korean music was called the era of new music and the era of new songs and new songs.

In Korean music, the 18th century was a time when new chamber music arrangements such as samhyeon yakgak, also called Julpungryu, Daepungryu, and Seak, were very popular in that new repertoire songs were played.

Above all, it is from this time that the Western musical instrument 'yanggeum' was introduced and used in Korean chamber music, and the clear and transparent tone of the iron string sound, which was different from the sound of our silk thread before, was harmonized with chamber music to create a different resonance than before. All.

The Julpungryu music, which arose in the process of establishing Korean music as the current Korean traditional music, is a mixture of the music of the military band, which has been used by the royal court and military since ancient times, and the musical instruments of China, which have been handed down as Korean traditional instruments. It refers to the music that has been revived in the late Joseon Dynasty and has reached the present, in which the traditional performance of using gold(), Go(), Ga(), and Jeok() was revived in the late Joseon Dynasty.

'Junggwangjigok', the first Yeongsanhoesang centered on string instruments, is a string instrument derived from the royal court music Yeongsanhoesang.

The second wind instrument-centered Yeongsanhoesang, 'Feeling Manbanggok(表正萬方之曲)', and the third ensemble piece Yuchoshinjigok(柳初新之曲) with stringed Yeongsanhoesang shifted down by 4 degrees. It is also performed with similar instrumentation.

In this regard, 'Sanjo' started to be instrumentalized and played from the late 17th century, when the previous royal music Yeongsanhoesang was called 'Geomungohoesang'. It refers to the 'rak' that was played when the concert started, and the place where it was played was Pungryubang.

In Jeongeup, there were pungryubangs such as 'Youngmojae, Jinsan-dong, Jeongeup,' and 'Ayangjeong, Isimjeong, and Jeongeup Jeongakwon'.
