The 9th Division of the Jeonbuk Police Agency Highway Patrol Division conducted a preliminary on-site inspection with the Korea Expressway Corporation Muji on the 15th to preemptively prevent traffic accidents caused by heavy snowfall and road icing and the issuance of heavy snow warnings due to the uncertainty of climate change in winter.

This on-site inspection is aimed at establishing a snow removal cooperation system between related organizations, including inspecting snow removal equipment such as calcium chloride and sand and damaged or incomplete facilities in the 7km section from the Tongyeong Daejeon Line Yuksipryeong Tunnel to the Jangsu Junction. The focus was on providing road conditions.

In particular, as 53 tunnels (39km) and 230 bridges(48km) account for about 36% of the total 241.1km under the jurisdiction of District 9, the will to prevent traffic accidents caused by heavy snowfall and freezing in winter is contained.

In addition, by designating 13 areas at risk of heavy snowfall and freezing, establishing an emergency contact network with the control room and snow removal team of each branch of the Korea Expressway Corporation and conducting on-site inspections continuously, in case an emergency occurs for each risk section, detour roads are designated and disaster preparedness simulation drills are conducted. plan to proceed.

In addition, safety activities such as operation of an emergency contact network from the stage of heavy snowfall forecasting and intensive patrols of vulnerable sections in the event of a drop in temperature or snowfall are also strengthened, and operation of large trucks equipped with brake lights and worn or damaged tires, which are highly likely to lead to major accidents in winter. In the same way, intensive crackdowns on poor maintenance and guidance, video crackdowns for not securing a safe distance, and drinking crackdowns around scenic spots are also implemented.

Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol Unit Kim Hyeon-cheol(Senior Police Officer) 9th District Captain said, "To prevent accidents in winter, be aware of the weather conditions along the driving route in advance, and slow down by 20-50% to prevent situations where vehicle control is impossible due to heavy snow. When driving on shady roads such as bridges or tunnel entrances, where black ice occurs in early winter, keep two to three times the distance between the vehicle in front and the vehicle in front."

"Drowsy driving on the highway is directly related to life, so you should take a break before starting off and take a break at a nearby drowsy shelter or rest area when drowsiness strikes,"he said. It is necessary to practice safe driving, such as slowing down 20 to 50 percent during time zones," he added.
