Discovered Imsil 'Hoam Bonghwa Drainage Facility'

In Imsil-gun, Jeollabuk-do, a study on the structure of the symbolic Bongsu of major military facilities during the Three Kingdoms period and the discovery of a Bonghwa drainage facility that can reveal the identity of the Gaya forces in the Jeollabuk-do region are attracting extraordinary interest in the academic world.

Imsil-gun and Jeonju Cultural Heritage Research Center held the'Imsil Hoam Bonghwa Academic Advisory Conference' on the 15th at the site of Beombawi Mountain, 366m above sea level, in Dobong-ri, Gwanchon-myeon.

The academic advisory meeting was held in the presence of Prof. Jang-Geun Kwak of Gunsan University, Su-young Han, Director of the Honam Cultural Heritage Research Institute, and an official from the Jeonju Cultural Heritage Research Center.

In particular, in a prospecting survey conducted as part of the discovery and maintenance of Gaya Cultural History in Jeonbuk, the estimated beacon facility in Hoam Bonghwa was found to be a drainage channel made by shaving about 20 to 30 cm of rock mass in a circular shape over natural bedrock.

The drainage channel formed a gentle slope with the west side of the beacon facility, leading to the north-south direction, and the length was 220 cm and the width was about 17 cm, and the remaining condition was confirmed to be in very good condition.

In addition, a deungbong facility made from natural rock formations in the form of stairs was also confirmed.

'Hoam Bonghwa' is a Gwanchon Bonghwa-ro that connects Seongmisanseong and Godeoksan Bonghwa, apart from the previously known Bonghwa of Imsil Bonghwa, and is located in a geographically important place.

When you go up to Beomrock Mountain, you can see the Seomjin River basin in the area of Imsil Sinpyeong-myeon to the west, and you can see Godeok Mountain in the east and Seongmi Mountain in the north.

"This excavation survey is very meaningful by finding another type of beacon at Bonghwa Mountain Bonghwa in the Seomjin River basin, and finding another type of Bonghwa at Bonghwa, Hoam." At the same time, we plan to find ways to preserve and utilize it.”

On the other hand, when trying to deliver urgent news from the outskirts to the center, it is Bongsu to go up to a high mountain and make a fire and transmit the signal with the light and smoke.

The method of 夜火晝煙 (Yahwa Jooyeon) was used, which used to light a fire at night and send a signal with smoke during the day.

It was a facility and institution to perform an important communication role in national defense by building a bongsudae on the peaks that can be seen from each other at every 30-ri distance, and raising torches and smoke.

Bongsu(烽燧) means torch() and smoke(). It is presumed to have been raised since the Three Kingdoms period.
