The Jeonbuk Health and Environment Research Institute established the Infectious Disease Research Department and New Infectious Diseases Division on the 1st of last month to strengthen the infectious disease disaster response system according to the reorganization of the province.

Accordingly, it is possible to quickly respond to the confirmation and diagnosis of new and imported infectious diseases such as COVID-19, MERS, and Zika virus, the prediction of Japanese encephalitis and Vibrio sepsis, and the influenza monitoring project.

In particular, since the 15th, the delta mutation estimation test using the real-time PCR method has been pilot-operated. It is possible to secure not only gamma mutations but also confirmatory testing capabilities for delta mutations in the future.

Jeollabuk-do predicts that the Jeonbuk Health and Environment Research Institute will greatly contribute to providing basic data necessary for tracking management and establishing quarantine policies through rapid identification of mutations in the province.

The Jeonbuk Institute of Health and Environment, an institution that confirmed COVID-19, has operated a 24-hour rapid diagnosis system since January last year, and reported the results of the detection of a total of 1,386 positive cases (the number of tests - 249,596) to each city and county public health center in the province.

In addition, although an average of about 700 tests have been conducted per day, it is expected that an average of about 1,000 samples will be accepted, which is an increase of about 40% in the future.

Director Yoo Taek-soo of the Jeonbuk Institute of Health and Environment said, "In recognition of its testing ability by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it has been selected as an institution that can perform definitive tests for major mutations (alpha, beta, gamma) from the 9th. We will do our best to end the infectious disease by maintaining the highest reliability of the test results, including thorough monitoring."
