세계잼버리장의 총면적은 여의도의 세배인 270만평 규모로 풍부한 자연환경을 누릴 수 있는 넓은 대지 위에 야영장이 조성됐다.

 

특히, 새만금은 기네스북에 등재된 33.9km의 가장 긴 방조제로 인류의 도전과 개척의 정신을 담은 미래의 땅이기도 하다.
일부 환경단체가 새만금 환경파괴를 걱정하고 있다.

 

하지만, 스카우트운동이 자연과 환경에 근간을 두고 있는 만큼 성공적인 잼버리를 개최하기 위해 지구촌이 직면하고 있는 환경에 미치는 영향을 최소화할 수 있도록 준비했다.

 

이번 세계스카우트잼버리는 대한민국에서 개최하지만, 우리만 준비하는 행사가 아닌 전 세계 회원국과 스카우트들이 다 함께 준비하고 운영하자는 취지로 'Draw Your Dream(너의 꿈을 펼쳐라)' 슬로건을 기반으로 지역별 여건에 맞게 2016년도부터 전 세계 회원국을 대상으로 홍보활동을 펼쳐 왔다.

 

제25회 세계스카우트잼버리는 한국스카우트연맹 창립 100주년을 기념하고 스카우트운동의 새로운 100년을 준비하면서 청소년활동의 활성화를 기여하는 상징성 있는 국제대회를 개최하고자 2011년 유치 추진을 선포하면서 시작됐다.

이번 세계잼버리에 158개국에서 43,000명의 스카우트 대원과 지도자들이 12일 동안 금전적으로 환산할 수 없는 소중한 추억을 쌓을 수 있도록 정부와 전라북도 그리고 한국스카우트연맹에서 최선을 다해 준비했다.

 

세계스카우트잼버리는 지구촌 최대 규모의 청소년운동인 스카우트의 축제로 청소년들의 문화올림픽이라 할 수 있다.

 

1920년 제1회 세계잼버리가 영국 런던에서 개최된 이후 올림픽처럼 4년마다 열리고 있는 지구촌 청소년 축제로 자리매김해 왔다.

 

잼버리가 열리는 12일 동안은 158개국에서 43,000명의 스카우트 대원과 지도자들이 한자리에 모인다.

 

국가ㆍ민족ㆍ종교ㆍ언어까지 서로 간의 '다름'을 모두 초월하는 그런 하나의 큰 만남과 교류의 장이 펼쳐지게 된다.

 

함께 야영 생활도 하고 많은 과정 활동에 참가하며 심신을 조화 있게 발달시키고 모험심도 키우게 된다.

사전훈련은 잼버리 전 일정에 참가하기 위한 사전 준비를 하는 시간으로 ▲ 텐트를 설치하고 걷는 방법 ▲ 잼버리 기간에 발생할 수 있는 긴급상황에 대한 안전교육 ▲ 세계잼버리 추진 현황 ▲ 국제매너 ▲ 잼버리 준비물 챙기기 ▲ 물품 트레이드 방법 등 보다 즐겁고 안전한 잼버리를 즐기기 위한 교육이다.

 

운영요원의 공식적인 입영일은 한국은 25일부터 28일까지다.
