우려했던 일이 현실이 되어 새만금 사업이 좌초될 위기에 처해 있습니다.

 

지난 8월 29일 국무회의를 통과한 내년도 국가예산안 앞에서 당혹감과 비참함을 느낍니다.

 

정부가 주관하는 세계잼버리 파행을 두고 일부 정치권에서 '새만금 SOC 예산 따내기용 잼버리'라는 허위 사실을 확대 생산하며 전라북도가 잼버리 개최를 핑계로 새만금 국제공항 등 새만금 기반 시설 유치에 나선 것처럼 호도하더니 새만금 사업 예산 홀대가 현실이 됐다.

 

2024년 예산으로 부처 반영액 6,626억원 가운데 78% 가량을 삭감한 1,479억원 만 반영돼 새만금 잼버리 파행으로 인한 계속된 후폭풍에 개탄스럽고 참담한 심정뿐입니다.

 

국가 최대의 국토개발 사업인 새만금 사업은 지난 1991년부터 무려 33년간 이어오며 2차례 법정 소송 등 우여곡절을 겪으며 개발이 더뎠으나 2007년 '새만금 특별법'이 제정되면서 사업의 당위성을 인정받은 국가사업이다.

 

새만금 사업을 전담하는 중앙행정기관인 '새만금개발청'도 설립 했습니다.

 

'새만금 특별법'은 새만금 사업지역을 농업을 기조로 하는 환경친화적인 개발ㆍ이용 및 보전에 관한 사항을 규정해 지속 가능한 개발을 추진하는 것을 목적으로 하였습니다.
