원광대학교병원이 임상 전문의의 진료 역량과 연구 역량 강화에 주력하고 있는 가운데 의과대학 1기 졸업생으로 광주과학기술원(GIST = 4년제 국립 특수대학교) 부총장인 박래길(의생공학과 박사) 교수를 초빙, 보직교수 및 팀(실)장ㆍ중간관리자를 대상으로 초청 강연을 개최했다

이날 초청 강연은 병원에서 환자를 진료하는 임상의사에게 연구가 필요한 이유 및 세계적인 대학병원 평가지표와 이와 관련된 해석과 연구중심 병원의 준비해야 할 내용을 발표하고 토론하는 형식으로 열렸다.

박래길 박사는 이 자리에서 '의사에게 연구가 필요한 이유(Why does Physician need for research)'란 주제 강연을 통해 "연구력을 갖춘 의료진이 있는 병원이 국제적으로 정립된 평가 기준에서 높은 순위를 차지하고 있다"고 말문을 열었다.
